PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-absorbable anisotropic film having a high dichroic ratio and a polarizing film.SOLUTION: The light-absorbable anisotropic film is prepared by fixing the orientation of a dichroic dye composition in which the proportion of a liquid crystalline non-coloring low-molecular compound is less than or equal to 30% by mass and that contains at least one type of nematirc-liquid-crystalline dichroic azo dye. The light-absorbable anisotropic film exhibits diffraction peaks resulting from the periodic structure in the direction parallel to the orientation axis as measured by X-ray diffractometry.
