PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dichroic dye composition having a high dichroic ratio and a light absorbing anisotropic film.SOLUTION: This dichroic dye composition is a dichroic dye composition containing at least one type of dichroic squarylirium dyes represented by formula (1) (where Aand Arepresent independently an unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbon ring group or heterocyclic group) and having thermotropic liquid crystallinity in which the content constituted by a liquid crystalline non-colorable low molecular weight compound is 30 mass% or less; and this light absorbing anisotropic film contains the dichroic dye composition.
