PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tire tread which is excellent in low-temperature characteristics represented by on-ice performance, and is also excellent in wet performance, low rolling resistance, low hysteresis, and aging resistance, and a pneumatic tire using the same.SOLUTION: The rubber composition for tire tread includes: 5-50 pts.mass of an ester-based plasticizer with a specified saturated ring structure; and 10-120 pts.mass of a reinforcing filler including 10-80 pts.mass of silica with respect to 100 pts.mass of a diene-based rubber with glass transition temperature of -50°C or lower. The pneumatic tire uses the rubber composition for the tread (3).
