PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing chuck that can accurately detect the holding state of a workpiece.SOLUTION: The opening and closing chuck for holding a workpiece by claws includes: a guide member having a guide rail; first and second sliders that are provided so as to slide on the guide rail and to which the claws are mounted; a drive source for making the first and second sliders slide so that the sliders separate from or come close to each other; and a strain sensor provided in a position where strain is generated when the claws mounted to the first and second sliders hold a workpiece in the guide member.
