The method involves automatically determining extreme value in a specific recording protocol for a specific recording parameter. The recording parameter is automatically adjusted during exceedance of load limit of an X-ray tube (6) of an X-ray computed tomography apparatus (1), where the apparatus comprises a patient couch (2) for bedding a patient (P) to be examined. X-ray projections from the patient are recorded without exceeding the load limit of the X-ray tube. The apparatus is connected with a planning computer (12) that comprises a display device (14). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an X-ray computed tomography apparatus comprising a computing unit (2) a data carrier comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for automatically adjusting a recording parameter of a recording protocol of an X-ray computed tomography apparatus.
