An exception processing method and system for a network processor are provided in the invention, which both can perform centralized processing for exception messages, specifically, can set exception type marks (302); can set correspondences between the exception type marks and exception processing configurations (304); can query the correspondences according to the exception type marks, and then accordingly obtain the exception processing configurations to process the exception (306). The method and system in the invention can perform centralized configuration and management for every type of exception messages for the network processor, and flexibly configure the exception processing configurations of every type of exception messages, so that every type of exception messages is centrally processed.
