The device has two longitudinal welding units arranged at a distance from each other in a transporting direction of conveyors. Upper and lower diagonal pull rollers (6) are rolled diagonal to the transporting direction on a film edge (7) to be separated before a film is passed to one of the welding units. An upper film (9) and a lower film (10) are movable through a lateral product stop (8) in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. The rollers are arranged next to each other in the transporting direction and supported at swingably supported lever arms (11). An independent claim is also included for a method for welding films of planar products.
