<p>This invention relates to a method for the preparation of lithium carbonate from lithium chloride containing brines. In one embodiment, a lithium chloride containing solution is contacted a sodium hydroxide solution in a reaction vessel to produce a lithium hydroxide solution. The lithium hydroxide is contacted with carbon dioxide gas in a reaction vessel to produce a solution that includes lithium carbonate. The lithium carbonate is separated to produce a product stream and a sodium chloride stream, which can be recycled to the electrochemical cell.</p> |
