PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out aligning at a large output without damaging a metallization part or the like.SOLUTION: A method for adjusting a relative position between an optical fiber 2 provided with a coating 2a and a semiconductor laser 1 for emitting multimode laser toward the optical fiber 2, includes a plurality of sub-aligning steps in each of which a light quantity of fiber emission light emitted from the optical fiber 2 is measured while making the semiconductor laser 1 emit light with a constant light quantity and moving the optical fiber 2 relatively to the semiconductor laser 1 and then the relative position is adjusted to an optimal position where the light quantity of the fiber emission light is maximum. The method includes, between each two of the sub-aligning steps, a determining step in which a constant light quantity in the latter sub-aligning step is determined so as to be larger than that in the former sub-aligning step. In the determining step, the constant light quantity in the latter sub-aligning step is determined using a measurement result of the former sub-aligning step in order not to damage the coating 2a in the latter sub-aligning step. |
