PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain film thinning while maintaining a function as an auxiliary recording layer and to enhance an SNR and overwrite characteristics.SOLUTION: A perpendicular magnetic disk is typically constituted so that a granular magnetic layer 160 and an auxiliary recording layer 180 disposed above the granular magnetic layer 160 are included on a substrate, wherein the granular magnetic layer 160 has a granular structure where a grain boundary part is formed while a non-magnetic substance including essentially an oxide is segregated around a magnetic particle grown in a columnar shape and including essentially a CoCrPt alloy and the auxiliary recording layer 180 includes essentially a CoCrPtRu alloy and has 1.5-4.0 nm film thickness.
