PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a member to be detected, which composes a position detector for detecting the position of a carriage, from coming into contact with the slide face of a guide member for guiding the carriage.SOLUTION: The carriage 4 mounting an ink jet head 5 thereon reciprocates leftward and rightward by its being guided by the slide faces 2a, 12a, and 13a provided on the guide rails 2 and 3. The carriage 4 is disposed on the upper face of the guide rail 3 so as to be opposite to the slide face 13a, and its position is detected by a linear encoder 8 composed from an encoder film 31 extending leftward and rightward and a detector 32 mounted on the carriage 4 so as to be opposite to the encoder film 31. A protective film 9 extending in leftward and rightward is disposed on the upper surface of the guide rail 3 in a portion between the encoder film 31 and the slide face 13a. |
