PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the rigidity of the whole latch device by reinforcing a rigidity-decreased portion of the latch device with a simple constitution in which a peripheral rib is provided at a peripheral edge of each striker entry groove of a body and a cover, because the rigidity is decreased by the presence of the striker entry grooves in upper, lower and intermediate positions in the latch device.SOLUTION: In this device for engaging a seat for a vehicle including a striker 11 fixed on the side of a vehicle body 3, and an engaging member 20 which is rotatably journaled to a seat-side body 1 and in which a plurality of grooves for being engaged with the striker 11 are juxtaposed in a length direction, the engaging member 20 is provided with the engaging body 35 which is protruded in a direction of crossing a rotational direction to keep the engaging body 35 disposed on a rotational locus line of an engaging surface 37 of the member 36 for opening, which is coupled to one end of an operation transfer member 41 having the other end coupled to an arbitrary operation member 42; the cover 40 is provided at a predetermined interval in the body 10; the striker entry grooves 12, which allow the entry of the striker 11, are formed in the body 10 and the cover 40, respectively; and the peripheral rib 65 is provided at the peripheral edge of each of the striker entry grooves 12 of the body 10 and the cover 40. |
