PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber that operates in a single mode even when a core diameter becomes large, and a method of manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The optical fiber 1 includes: a main core 11 which can transmit a higher mode; a sub-core 12 which is disposed apart from the main core 11, and can transmit a basic mode coupled to the higher mode of the main core 11 and has larger transmission loss than the main core 11; and a clad 13 which is disposed at a periphery of the main core 11 and sub-core 12 and has a smaller refractive index than the main core 11 and sub-core 12.
