PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which reduces power consumption while preventing burning of a luminescent material by controlling a luminescent wheel to rotate or stop rotating, so as to prevent burning in the luminescent material.SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with: a light source unit having an excitation light source the luminescent wheel on which the luminescent material layer, configured to emit light emitted from the excitation light source as excitation light, is laid circumferentially, and a wheel motor for driving the luminescent wheel; a display element; a light guiding optical system which guides the light emitted from the light source unit to the display element; a projection side optical system which projects projection light generated in the display element; and a motor control means which controls whether to stop or drive the wheel motor to such an extent that burning breakdown is not caused in the luminescent material layer. The motor control means controls whether to stop or drive the wheel motor while confirming a projection mode when projection, and a driving current which flows through the excitation light source. |
