PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration capable of achieving stereoscopic image display of high image quality, in a projector for timewise alternately displaying an image for a left eye and an image for a right eye which are different from each other in a polarization state.SOLUTION: The projector includes: liquid crystal light valves 6R, 6G and 6B in which first image data corresponding to the image for a left eye and second image data corresponding to the image for a right eye are alternately written in line order; a polarization switching element 9 that has a plurality of switching areas and switches a polarization state between a first polarization state and a second polarization state in line order; and a light transmission optical system 8 that roughly images light from the liquid crystal light valves in the polarization switching element, to form an intermediate image. A boundary position, between a switching area that provides the first polarization state and a switching area that provides the second polarization state, is moved nearly in synchronization with the movement of a boundary position on the intermediate image corresponding to a boundary position between an area where the first image data is written and an area where the second image data is written. |
