A method and an apparatus for timing, both can receive a timer call request sent by a requesting party, allocate a timer for the requesting party accordingly, and perform timing by utilizing the allocated timer; and when the timing time of the timer reaches a corresponding preset timing time, send a timer time-reached message to the requesting party. The solution can solve the problems that the timer is limited by the signals of the located operating system and the number of the timers in each progress is limited in the prior art.
