The method for heat-treating a workpiece from a low-alloy chromium bearing steel, comprises austenitizing and quenching (13) a workpiece. The austenitization of the workpiece is carried out at 1000-1050[deg] C for 10-30 minutes, and the workpiece is quenched under vacuum with a moderate cooling rate of 0.2-2 at -60[deg] C for 2 hours. The heat treatment is carried out using vacuum oven at 180[deg] C. The workpiece is maintained at a temperature of below 0[deg] C for 2 hours after quenching and before the heat treatment. An independent claim is included for a workpiece.
