The disclosed process for producing a display device involves: a step of forming a laminate in which a first electroconductive film and a second electroconductive film have been laminated in order; a step of forming an electrode section from the laminate by removing a portion of the second electroconductive film and thereby forming a contact region in which the first electroconductive film and the second electroconductive film do not overlap one another; a step of forming a planarizing film, which is made of a photosensitive material, on a substrate on which the electrode section has been formed, the planarizing film being formed so as to cover the electrode section, and then forming a contact hole that penetrates the planarizing film at a position within the contact region; and a step of forming a pixel electrode on the surface of the planarizing film so as to cover the first electroconductive film that is exposed from the planarizing film inside the contact hole.
