In order to favorably suppress brightness unevenness in a lighting device, the disclosed backlight device (12) is provided with: an LED substrate (18) having LEDs (17); a light-guide member (19) with respect to which the LEDs (17) are disposed facing the ends thereof; a chassis (14) that houses the LED substrate (18) and the light-guide member (19); a holding member (23) that affixes the LED substrate to the chassis (14) in the state of sandwiching the LED substrate (18) against the chassis (14); and a regulating section (26) that regulates the positional relationship of the holding member (23) with respect to the LED substrate (18) in a manner so that a gap (G) is retained between the holding member (23) and the LED substrate (18).
