PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display which can cancel faults due to swelling of a light guide plate at lighting on, without damaging downsizing or light extraction efficiency from an LED light source.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel, a backlight unit, or the like. The backlight unit is of an edge type in which an LED light source 19 having a light-emitting body 42 is arranged in the vicinity of, and in opposition to, a lower side face 13b of the light guide plate 13. The backlight unit has an opposing member 43 at a position where no light-emitting bodies 42 exist, that is, opposed to the lower side face 13b of the light guide plate 13, with a relative height of the opposing member 43 higher than that of the light-emitting body 42. |
