<p>Metallic objects such as steel pipes and shipbuilding plates are welded using complemental bevels in the faces to be welded which, when abutted, define a channel of cruet shaped cross-section. The cruet shaped channel allows the filling weld passes to be performed using a welding instrument oscillated only at tolerance amplitudes in a range of 1.5 mm±0.5 mm rather than bevel width amplitudes. The process can be used in single or double side welding applications.</p> |
