A digital multimeter (100), comprising a measurement component for receiving measurement data corresponding to one or more physical or electrical parameters, a user interface for receiving user input to place the digital multimeter in an auto-save mode, and a memory component (204) for storing data captured by the digital multimeter. The digital multimeter is characterized in that an auto-save component automatically captures and stores data when the digital multimeter (100) is in an auto-save mode by: (a) detecting when the digital multimeter (100) receives stable measurement data of one or more physical or electrical parameters, and (b) automatically saving stable measurement data to the memory component (204) upon making the detection.
