667,096. Accumulators. VARLEY DRY ACCUMULATORS, Ltd., FULLER, L., and SZPER, A. J. Feb. 7, 1950 [Feb. 7, 1949], No. 3334/49. Class 53. The negative active material 14 of an accumulator is applied to the inner surface of an insulating container 32, Fig. 4, connection with the negative terminal being made by a conductor 33 embedded in the active material. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 1, connection to the terminal 17 may be made by a sheet of lead 15 placed between the active material 14 and the container. The negative material is separated from the positive electrode 19 by kieselguhr or other porous material 18 above which is a porous ceramic disc 21 and an air-space 25. The walls of the container may extend above the terminals so that the cell may be stood upside down, the filling opening in this construction being in the bottom of the cell. Figs. 2 and 3 show a jig for use in assembling the cell. An open-ended cylinder 26 rests on a flat surface 27, the lead conductor 15, active material 14 and remaining elements of the cell being inserted in order within the jig 26 from which they are removed by a plunger 29, Fig. 3. The assembly is dried in an oven and then fitted. in its casing. The jig and the accumulator casing may be slightly tapered. Specifications 295,220, [Class 53], and 432,775 are referred to. |
