<p>A device and a method for detecting a paper size in a flat board scanner are provided to detect a paper size of a document put on a stage glass by moving a CCD(Charge Coupled Device) to a predetermined position when a cover is opened, and scanning the document when the cover is closed. A controller(20) scans an image of the document put on the stage glass when a cover open/close sensor(40) of the scanner is turned off. If whole scanned image is black, the controller scans again the image after a predetermined time from a time point turning off the cover open/close sensor. The controller detects the paper size by using an image difference between a document area and the area excluding the document image. The time of turning off the cover open/close sensor is the just time before the cover is completely closed from an open time point. The predetermined time is the maximum time for completely closing the cover.</p> |
