RECANALIZATION OF OCCLUDED BODY VESSELS USING HIGH BACK-UP FORCE

Methods and systems for safe and accurate recanalization of body vessels having hard, fibrous, or calciferous occlusions. A catheter comprising a suction lumen is stabilized on an occlusion by the application of suction force. With the distal end of the catheter firmly stabilized on the occlusion, a guidewire is advanced to penetrate the occlusion and recanalize the body vessel. Stabilization of the distal end of the catheter on the occlusion reduces the chance of deviation of the guidewire from the occlusion into the subintimal space of the body vessel.
