PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for recording a large data capacity of near field light, and to provide a method.SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a component having a first surface; a phase transition storage medium positioned adjacent to the first surface; a first waveguide for directing electromagnetic radiation to a focal point adjacent to the first surface and changing part of the phase of the phase transition storage medium by using the near field radiation; a first electrode having a first end positioned adjacent to the phase transition storage medium; and a detector for detecting current in the first electrode changing according to a change of electric conductivity of the storage medium.
