<p>Development of global economy as a whole in the past few decades proved that the number one hindrance of further development is that traditional energy sources become more and more scarce. A possible way of easing consequent crisis symptoms is to use more renewable energy. Increased use of vegetable oils can be of key importance when it comes to satisfying such demand, with special regard to their tribological application to reduce wear and attrition. A key condition for such tribological application of vegetable oils to reduce wear and attrition is the transformation of such surfaces exposed to friction and attrition, and therefore changing their way of operation. The lubricant material prepared with the additional substance selected for tribological purpose is chemically (atomically) attached to the respective surfaces, it has positive and negative charges, and exerts its beneficial impact directly on the attaching surfaces. It forms a multimolecular layer on such metal surfaces, and such layer excludes any direct attachment of such surfaces subject to friction, takes over the entire strain caused by forces present on such attaching surfaces. In this way, this lubricant material causes significant decrease in friction, wear and attrition. The following are considered for tribological application of vegetable oil in order to reduce attrition: machines, production equipment, engines and vehicles, household appliances, and any other machinery or machinery unit that rotates, shifts, slides and fastens, joins or interlocks. Experience gained from application verify that the speed of attrition decreased by half on attaching surfaces exposed to friction and attrition, the extent of friction decreased by up to one tenth, and lubricant oil could be changed half as often than formerly. In addition to the above, the fuel consumption of internal combustion engines was decreased by ten percent and the extent of emission decreased by 25 percent. Application of vegetable oils for tribological technology is highly useful for the economy. According to conservative estimates and calculations on how economical such use can be, the extent of savings can approach or even increase one quarter - one third of operational expenses (less the costs of energy source used for operation).</p> |
