PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a stereoscopic vision appropriately expressing the overall depth of a three-dimensional space without impairing the stereoscopic effect of a notable object.SOLUTION: A depth value Za from a virtual visual point in a three-dimensional virtual space is converted according to a correspondence in which an appropriate stereoscopic vision is associated with a stereoscopic appropriate range (Zmin-Zmax) that is a range where an appropriate stereoscopic vision can be observed, and a resulting converted depth value Zb is used to generate a stereoscopic image. This correspondence is determined so that the original depth value Za and the converted depth value Zb have substantially a directly proportional relation in a depth range A of a target object while taking a depth value Zo of a representative point of the target object from the virtual visual point as the center value of the stereoscopic appropriate range. The depth value Za is determined so as to gently increase to the limit value Zmax on the back side of the stereoscopic appropriate range as it comes closer to the back side of the target object and to gently reduce to the limit value Zmin on the front side of the stereoscopic appropriate range as it comes closer to the front side of the target object.
