PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid preignition when an engine is started.SOLUTION: This starting control device for the internal combustion engine, controlling intake air volume led to flow into a cylinder by a variable valve train, includes: a starting preignition occurrence determination means determining whether or not the preignition occurs when the internal combustion engine is started; and a starting engine speed control means controlling the lift/operating angle of an intake valve to predetermined small lift/small operating angle with volumetric efficiency reduced as the engine speed of the internal combustion engine is increased in a predetermined low rotation area. When it is determined by the starting preignition occurrence determination means that the preignition occurs, the starting engine speed control means corrects the lift/operating angle of the intake valve so that the preignition is avoided by reducing the air volume led to flow into the cylinder in comparison with the air volume led to flow into the cylinder during the predetermined small lift/small operating angle. |
