PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve power generation efficiency by increasing all of a gas channel, proton conducting path, and three-phase interface of an electrode catalyst layer structuring a unit cell of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, and by efficiently utilizing a catalyst in the electrode catalyst layer.SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly 10 comprises: a polymer electrolyte membrane 1; and the electrode catalyst layers 2, 3 arranged on both surfaces of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1, and structures the unit cell of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell together with a separator 5 having a plurality of gas flow channels 5a. At least the electrode catalyst layer 2 on a cathode side has a structure in which a catalyst carrying carbon particle is absorbed in a hole of a porus film formed of a proton conductive polymer, and a layer of the proton conductive polymer is formed on a surface of the catalyst carrying carbon particle. The catalyst density of a part 2a corresponding to the gas flow channel 5a of the separator 5 is higher than that of a part 2b corresponding to a rib 5b. |
