PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophobization treatment technique of a particle surface which is applied for a particle consisting of a broad material such as an inorganic particle, an organic particle and an inorganic organic complex particle, without requiring a high temperature reaction and an organic solvent.SOLUTION: The hydrophobization treatment technique consists of making the particle surface having a hydrophilic group to be hydrophobic by a hydrophobization treatment agent in an aqueous medium, wherein the hydrophibic group of the particle surface reacts with the hydrophobization treatment agent in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst.
