A program reception and a channel search are simultaneously executed, whereby even in case of a movement between reception areas, the reception can be performed and a received program can continuously be viewed without any interruptions. A receiver apparatus comprises: first and second reception systems; a demodulation/diversity combination means for combining demodulated signals of the first and second reception systems; a selection means for selecting and outputting the output of one of the first and second reception systems; and a control means for controlling the operations of the whole receiver apparatus. The control means enables the execution of a first composite operation in which one of the reception systems is caused to continue a reception operation, while the other reception system is caused to perform a channel search to search for a channel satisfying a predetermined condition and further in which the selection means is caused to select the output of the reception system continuing the reception operation. If no channel to be received has been found as a result from the first composite operation, the control means exchanges the reception system that is to continue the reception operation and the reception system that is to perform the channel search, and enables the execution of a second composite operation in which similar processings to those in the first composite operation are performed.
