PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the longitudinal crack of a slab which can correctly detect the longitudinal crack of a slab during casting.SOLUTION: The method includes: a temperature measurement step of measuring the temperature of a mold during casting with a plurality of thermocouples arranged in the width direction of the mold; a temperature standardization step of deriving the deviation between the measured temperature and the moving average value of the temperature-time series data; a mean square value calculation step of calculating the mean square value between the obtained deviation and the deviation of the neighbors on the right and left in the width direction; an evaluation value calculation step of integrating the mean square value at the same position in the width direction at the two stages up and down in the mold so as to be an evaluation value; and a determination step of determining that a longitudinal crack is present when the evaluation value is a predetermined value or above.
