PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polymerizable compound that exhibits high Δn and has good solubility in a solvent and compatibility with other liquid crystal materials.SOLUTION: The polymerizable compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein, Pand Pare each a polymerizable group; m1 and m2 are each an integer of 1-10; A is a divalent group including a 5- to 18-membered aromatic hydrocarbon ring or a 5- to 18-membered aromatic heterocyclic ring; Land Lare each 1-10C alkyl or 1-10C alkoxy; k1 and k2 are each an integer of 0-4; X, X, Xand Xare each -O-, -S-, -NH-, -NR- or -SiRR-; n1 and n2 are each 0 or 1, provided that at least one of them is 1; and L, L, Land Lare each hydrogen, halogen, -CN, -NC, -NCO, -NCS, or -OCN, provided that the compound in which both of Xand Xrepresent -O-, and the compound in which one of Xand Xrepresents -O- and another represents -NH- or -NR- are excluded only when n1 is 1, both of Land Lare hydrogen, n2 is 1, and both of Land Lare hydrogen, and only when n1 is 1, both of Land Lare hydrogen, and n2 is 0). |
