<p>Disclosed is a process of precisely adjusting the initial position (or zero point) of a working roll in a rolling mill. This process is realized in consideration of a finding that a force in the rolling direction is generated in a rolling mill during the conventional adjustment process in the kiss roll state, but the generated force is not affected by a thrust force applied to the roll. Specifically, the levels of the working and driving sides of a working roll are adjusted to the zero points, respectively such that the difference between the forces in the rolling direction which are applied to respective roll chocks on the working and driving sides of the working roll is substantially zero (in fact, falls within ±5% of the sum of the forces on the working and driving sides). As a result, it is possible to make the highly precise zero point adjustment of a working roll independent of the thrust force even if a thrust force is applied to rolls. This adjusting process is based on this technique.</p> |
