Optical element (E) comprises a light diffuser (D) and a color converter (F). The light diffuser comprises at least 60% volume proportion of an aerogel material having a porosity of at least 85%. The color converter is formed from at least one luminescence agent, where the aerogel material is interspersed with the luminescence agent and/or is enclosed completely by the luminescence agent. An independent claim is also included for producing the optical element, comprising producing the aerogel material of the optical diffuser by a sol-gel process.
