PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method of a low-molecular-weight polytetrafluoroethylene aqueous dispersion which is excellent in dispersion stability. SOLUTION: In the preparation method of the low-molecular-weight polytetrafluoroethylene (with an average molecular weight of e.g. 10,000-500,000) aqueous dispersion, a polytetrafluoroethylene aqueous dispersion which has a pH of 6.0-13.0 and contains 10-70 mass% polytetrafluoroethylene fine particle with an average molecular weight of 700,000-30,000,000 and an average particle size of 0.1-0.5μm is exposed to 2-100 kGy of gamma radiation.
