[Also in Group XXXIV] In a mechanical stage comprising three plates, one fixed to the instrument, one sliding thereon and the third sliding on the second in a perpendicular direction, each movable plate is supported by plane tape-like carrying rails engaging in guide grooves in lateral parallel surfaces of the plate and guiding member therefor (but not necessarily respectively), at least one plane tape-like guide rail and engaging guide groove being provided on the upper and lower surfaces (but not necessarily respectively) of two adjacent plates. As shown, the fixed plate 1 has lateral grooves in which move tape-like carrying rails 17a of springy steel band attached to ledges 16a depending from a movable plate 4 which also carries a pinion 7 engaging a rack 3 fixed to the plate 1, by which the plate 4 is moved linearly. The plate 4 has similar carrying rails 13a, 13b similarly engaging grooves 19a, 19b in ledges 12a, 12b of the upper sliding plate 8 which is moved in a direction perpendicular to that of the plate 4 by a pinion 11 on the plate 4 engaging a rack 10 on the plate 8. The upper surface of the plate 8 is grooved at 15 to engage a guide rail 14 on the plate 8, a similar guide (not shown) being provided between the plates 4 and 1. |
