[Also in Group XXV] In making nut and washer assemblies, particularly those in which the washer has twisted locking- teeth, the nut blank is first drilled and then a shallow groove 38, Fig. 9, is pressed in by a punch 36, the washer 26, Fig. 11, is inserted in the groove, the outer wall 44 then being flared by an expander 42 permanently to connect the parts whilst permitting relative rotation. Finally, the assembly is tapped.
