A modular support structure (1,100, 200) useful as a bracing member for a tent or like fabric structure. The support structure (1,100, 200) includes a plurality of support blocks (2, 102, 202) hinged one to the next in series at an offset or off-centre position so that when they are flexed together in one direction (F) they are put into compression to form a stiffened modular support. When manipulated in an opposite direction, out of compression, the series of support blocks (2, 102, 202) can be hinged relative to one another so that they can be folded and/or rolled up and stowed. The blocks (102, 202) are preferably connected together by a spine (103) that extends through a slot (120) in each block (2, 102, 202).
