A device for measuring the concentrations of paramagnetic gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide or an anaesthetic in a gas sample comprises at least one modulatable source of magnetic flux 4a, 4b which has an air gap 3 to which a gas sample can be fed. At least two points of measurement 9a, 9b are arranged in the air gap and each has an electrically controllable heating device (8a, 8b Fig 2a) and a unit for measuring thermal conduction or resistive measuring means (6a, 6b, Fig 2a). Each point of measurement 9a, 9b is coupled to a variable current source to enable the heating device to be heated to an operating temperature, and each point of measurement is coupled to a measuring circuit from which measurement signals for thermal conduction are produced and the concentrations of paramagnetic gases which are contained in the gas sample can be derived.
