677,592. Collapsable tubes. BROWN, F. E. June 29, 1950 [June 30, 1949], No. 16324/50. Class 66 [Also in Group VI] A dispensing-type capsule comprises a container body 12 formed of a pliable, thermoplastic substance in the form of tubular stock, one end of the body being closed by a non-rupturable seal 11 and the other end of the body having opposite spaced-apart side portions 25, 26 which are non-rupturably sealed to provide between them a restricted expelling passage 27 terminating in a pair of lips 22 which are normally adjacent each other but can be forced apart by squeezing the capsule, and a mass of sealing substance 33 being provided surrounding and adhering to the lips, this substance having such a tensile strength that it is rupturable under the pressure of the contained material induced by squeezing the capsule. The side portions may be sealed by the application of heat. The final seal is preferably made by inverting the capsule and dipping the lips 22 momentarily in a body of molten sealing substance. The body is preferably made of a resin type thermoplastic material such as polymerized ethylene, or co-polymers of vinylidene chloride, or flexible base materials such as paper or cloth may be coated with a pliable thermoplastic substance to form the body material. The coatings on each side of the flexible base material may be different. Wall thicknesses of 0.003-0.010 have been found satisfactory. The sealing material is preferably a resin of the same type as the body material but having a lower molecular weight and a lower melting point. A plurality of capsules may be adhesively joined together side-by-side or end-to-end for marketing purposes. In filling the capsules it is preferable to leave an air space.
