PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle position correcting device and a vehicle position correction method, capable of reducing longitudinal distance errors (longitudinal shifts), and capable of preventing abrupt positional jump from being generated, by map-matching processing. SOLUTION: A normal is drawn from a GPS measured position onto a straight line, extending along the vehicular azimuth direction from a measured position by self-contained navigation, to calculate the distance D that connects the self-contained navigation measured position and the foot of the normal, when correcting a vehicle position, by using the measured position of a vehicle measured by the self-contained navigation and the measured position of the vehicle measured by a GPS measuring method. Then, the self-contained navigation measured position is shifted along the vehicular azimuth direction by a prescribed ratio of the distance D, the position obtained is defined as the vehicle position, and the vehicle position is map-matched on road link.
