The tool (1) has a longitudinally extending shaft (2), and a cutting head (6) for accommodating a cutting unit and arranged at an end of the shaft. A machine tool is clamped to a tool holder (8), where the shaft has a longitudinally extending shaft core (4) and a shaft casing (3) that surrounds the shaft core. The shaft core is made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic e.g. polyacrylnitrile-based carbon fiber, and connected with the shaft casing in fixed manner. The shaft casing is made of hard-metallic material e.g. tungsten or tungsten carbide. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cutting tool.
