The device has a tank (5) storing brake fluid (7). Monitoring units (8) i.e. brake fluid level sensor, identify rise in the level of liquid in the tank and generate an alarm if the identified rise is higher than a given maximum threshold. A value of the maximum threshold corresponds to appearance of a dilation phenomenon of the liquid or a vaporization phenomenon of the liquid. The monitoring units generate the alarm of a level if the identified rise is higher than the given maximum threshold and lower than another given maximum threshold distinct from the former maximum threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a braking system.
