<p>Disclosed are a display device capable of improving both display brightness and display quality in a three-dimensional display, and a lighting device for such a display device. In an optical modulator element (30), when carrying out a three-dimensional display, each optical modulator cell (30-1) is a scattering region (30B), and each optical modulator cell (30-2) is a permeable region (30A). Thus, light projected from a light source (20) that enters a light-guiding plate (10) passes though the permeable region (30A) and is scattered in the scattering region (30b), such that a plurality of projected light beams are outputted in a frontal direction. Each projected light beam outputted in the frontal direction enters the rear face of a display panel (210), and each projected light beam enters, at approximately the same angle, any of pixels (210-1, 210-2, 210-3, or 210-4), which are in a common location within each three-dimensional pixel (210A), such that video image light modulated by the pixel in the common location within each three-dimensional pixel (210A) is outputted from the pixel at a prescribed angle.</p> |
