摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalytic layer for a fuel cell, in which the electrode catalytic layer is provided with a water-retaining distribution to improve output performance while securing sufficient proton conductivity and gas diffusion; to provide a membrane electrode assembly for a fuel cell comprising the electrode catalytic layer; to provide a fuel cell comprising the membrane electrode assembly; and to provide a method of manufacturing the electrode catalytic layer for the fuel cell.SOLUTION: The electrode catalytic layer 2 for the fuel cell includes: a first electrode catalytic layer 2a comprising composite catalyst particles each including at least a catalyst material on a surface, in which the surface of the catalyst material is coated with a polymer electrolyte; and a second electrode catalytic layer 2b comprising a catalyst material, an electron conductive material and the polymer electrolyte. While the first electrode catalytic layer 2a and the second electrode catalytic layer 2b are stacked in a membrane thickness direction, the water-retaining properties of the first electrode catalytic layer 2a and the second electrode catalytic layer 2b are different.
