PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing the damage of gears caused by a shock and stably engaging the gears with each other by keeping constant the shaft-to-shaft distance of the gears engaged with each other.SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a movable gear 29 rotatably journaled by a rockable movable frame (first frame) 26 is provided in a conveying unit and the movable gear 29 is brought into contact with and separated from a drive gear (main body gear) 34 rotatably journaled by a fixed frame (second frame) 33 on an apparatus body side by the contact and separation operation of the conveying unit with respect to an apparatus body, to connect and disconnect the transmission of drive from the apparatus body side to a conveying unit side. The image forming apparatus is configured so that a circular-arcuate surface 26a centering on the shaft 30 of the movable gear 29 is formed in the first frame 26, a circular-arcuate surface 33a centering on the shaft 35 of the drive gear 34 is formed in the fixed frame 33, and both circular-arcuate surfaces 26a and 33a are brought into contact with and separated from each other by the contact and separation operation of the conveying unit with respect to the apparatus body. |
