The present invention relates to an apparatus for producing foamed bitumen (2) for a road building machine (1), comprising at least one mixing device (6) having a reaction chamber (4), in which mixing device hot bitumen (8) and at least one reaction fluid (12, 14) can be brought together via an inlet device (10), comprising at least one inlet nozzle (22, 24, 28), and from which mixing device (6) the hot bitumen and at least one reaction fluid can be emptied via an outlet device (16), provision being made of at least one compressed-air device (20), which can be used to apply a stream of compressed air to the inlet device (10) and/or the outlet device (16) for test and/or cleaning purposes. In addition, the present invention also relates to a process for servicing such an apparatus, comprising the following steps of a test process: a stream of compressed air is applied to the inlet and/or outlet device (10, 16); the pressure variation of the stream of compressed air in the inlet and/or outlet device (10, 16) is detected; and the detected pressure variation is compared with a stipulated desired pressure variation, in which case a deviation of the pressure variation from the desired pressure variation indicates a fault and, in particular, an obstruction in the inlet and/or outlet device (10, 16).
