<p>Disclosed is an optical member for a three-dimensional video image display, comprising a polarization axis control plate (180), further comprising: first polarizing regions (181); second polarizing regions (182); and polarization axis control plate region shutter units (183), which are disposed in locations that are boundaries between the first polarizing regions (181) and the second polarizing regions (182) and that correspond to video image generating region shutter units (163), and which shutter, either in whole or in part, a left-eye video image light and a right-eye video image light. When the right-eye video image light and the left-eye video image light respectively enter the first polarizing regions (181) and the second polarizing regions (182), the polarization axis control plate (180) emits the right-eye video image light and the left-eye video image light that have entered as either linearly polarized light, wherein the polarization axes are mutually orthogonal, or circular polarized light, wherein the rotational directions of the polarization axes are mutually opposite directions. A video image generator unit (160) is provided with video image generating region shutter units (163), which are disposed upon boundaries between first modulated light generator regions and second modulated light generator regions and shutter the light that enters thereon. The polarization axis control plate region shutter units (183) are formed to include a plurality of straight lines that are narrower in width than the width of the video image generating region shutter units (163).</p> |
